Back Together 304 Updates from Superintendent

Back Together Superintendent Message

Dec. 2, 2020

Throughout this school year in Geneva CUSD 304, we have emphasized the high value we place on in-person learning, while prioritizing the health & safety of our school community. We are so appreciative to all our Geneva 304 staff, students, and families who remained flexible as we transitioned to an adaptive pause this week at the recommendation of the Kane County Health Department. As previously communicated, all students will continue to follow their remote learning schedules through this Friday, Dec. 4.

The adaptive pause will end on Friday, Dec. 4, and all K-12 In-Person Hybrid students will return to school on Monday, Dec. 7 and continue with their on-site AB Schedule, which can be found on this page. Preschool students will return to their typical on-site learning schedules, as well.

We look forward to welcoming students back to our buildings. It is important that parents/guardians continue to self-monitor all family members daily and send children to school with their signed symptom screening form. Please take a moment to review the Symptom Screening Procedures on this page, and keep your child home and call your school’s attendance line if:

  • Your child or anyone in your household has tested positive for COVID-19 and is currently in isolation; OR
  • Your child is subject to a current quarantine order; OR
  • Your child or anyone in your household is awaiting results of a pending COVID-19 test; OR
  • Your child is experiencing one or more of the following symptoms within 24 hours of coming to school: fever or chills (100.4 F or higher without the use of fever-reducing medications), new onset of moderate to severe headache, shortness of breath, new cough, sore throat, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain from unknown cause, new congestion/runny nose, new loss of sense of taste or smell, nausea, fatigue from unknown cause, muscle or body aches.

We will continue to closely monitor the situation. Our goal continues to be that we stay the course with the learning models that are in place, and we also ask everyone to remain prepared and adaptable if we find that we need to make a change in our plans. Please note that the Data Dashboard will be updated this Friday afternoon to reflect any cases that were reported to us while students were not in school.

On a final note, our District is also hard at work planning for second semester, which begins Jan. 25, 2021. On Monday, parents/guardians of enrolled K-12 students received an automated email with an overview of our planning and instructions for requesting a switch in learning model. Please be sure to check your inbox for the subject line “Important Message from Geneva 304 Regarding 2nd Semester” and follow the instructions before 11:45 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9 if you are considering a change for your student(s). This video also provides an overview of this process.

We are excited to continue to provide in-person instruction for our students, alongside our online learners, and return to our Back Together 304 plan on Dec. 7. Thank you for your continued diligence in keeping our schools a safe place to work and learn.
Sincerely,

Dr. Kent Mutchler
Superintendent of Schools
